The Women and Legacy Project is my current focus. I am interested in how women view their life experience and how that has an impact on how they give back to the world.
Legacy is not necessarily limited to one's career or paid work. It may be formal, such as working on projects for social change. This could be anything from neighborhood or school initiatives to even national or international work. But equally important are the more personal ways that women give back such as how you parent your children or steps you take to care for the environment. One's legacy could also be interpersonal such one single parent supporting another or a business woman mentoring a woman new to a profession. These are all ways women give back to the world in the form of personal legacies.
I am conducting a survey using The Hero's Journey as a model for both personal and societal transformation. This is inspired by anthropologist Joseph Campbell's work where he studied myths and archetypal stories as well as world religions and distilled them down to a template of their basic elements. This is the basic "journey" of life and how we are changed by our life experiences. We can use the "journey" as a way to think about what gives us purpose and how we give back. Through this lens, you are the hero in your own life story.
I am writing about Women and Legacy from the survey responses. I plan to create an on-line community of women around the idea of Legacy.
To be part of the Women and Legacy Project and take the survey, click on the link below. The average length of time to complete the survey is 20-35 minutes. You do not need to be familiar with The Hero's Journey to take the survey. The survey walks you through and helps you learn something about yourself and your thoughts about your legacy.
